Pastoral care and counselling in important life situations

The diaconic service of the church (service of brotherly love) embraces the pastoral and spiritual counselling for people in church communities, care homes, hospitals, prisons and other institutions such as accommodation centres for asylum seekers and hospices etc. The discussions as well as the Reformed Church clergy and social diaconic personnel are subject to the requirements of official and professional confidentiality.

Don’t hesitate if you need a personal pastoral discussion, for example if you seek a new direction or have educational or partnership problems. You can also find help in a discussion if you are in social need, wrestling with an illness or mourning the loss of a loved one.

Make contact with your local pastor or with another pastoral-care representative – even if you are not a member of the Reformed Church. As a national church, the Reformed Church offers its services to all who need them.

You can also have an anonymous discussion via the Dargebotene Hand (Samaritans) Telephone 143, the Sorgentelefon für Bäuerinnen und Bauern (Help line for farmers) Tel (041-8200215), Internetseelsorge (Internet pastoral care) at seelsorge@seelsorge.net and SMS-Seelsorge (SMS pastoral care), tel. 767. The Reformed Church provides these institutions with spiritual, financial and personnel support.

Counselling in connection with official acts such as baptism, church weddings and funerals usually takes place in the home parish because the respective ceremony is also of significance to the community. If you have a particular reason to want to hold a baptism or wedding ceremony where you are staying on holiday, please make early contact with the responsible pastor of the community, so that personnel questions as well all legal matters can be cleared up in good time.

To try out
Do you have time to reflect on the important issues in life during your holiday? Have questions arisen that you would like to discuss in confidence with a pastoral worker? Then please don’t hesitate! Contact the pastor of the Reformed Church community and ask for a discussion.
